A one-off code should not come with a monthly bill
Most people who search for this need one code, once. A sign-up form in a school newsletter, a page on a shop window, a review link on a receipt. Some make it, and weeks later find it was part of a trial that now wants a card.
A code that opens one fixed link costs nothing to run, because the phone reads the link straight from the pattern. So there is nothing to subscribe to. Ours is free and stays free, and there is no account to cancel because there was never one to open.
What a subscription actually pays for
A dynamic code sends each scan through us first, so we can pass it on to whichever link you set today. That forwarding is the service. It is what lets you change the link on a printed poster, and see how often it is scanned and from where.
Because the forwarding happens on every scan, the code needs the subscription for as long as it is in use. Subscribe for a month and cancel, and the code works to the end of that month and 7 more days, then stops resolving. For a code that is only out for a few weeks, that is fine. For something that lasts years, budget for years, or print static.
Keeping the cost down
Print static whenever the link will stay put. It is the cheapest code there is, and no subscription can be attached to it later.
Print dynamic when getting the link wrong would cost more than the subscription. Add up what a reprint costs and how often the link is likely to change in a year. If that comes to more than $49, dynamic is the cheaper choice. If not, print static and reprint when you must.

- Update anytime. Change the link from your account while you subscribe, and cancel once the piece is no longer out there.
What it costs
Static codes are free, with no account. Dynamic codes cost $49 a year, which saves 30% against paying monthly, or $5.90 a month. We recommend yearly. Tax is included. Every account starts with a 7-day free trial that needs no payment details, and a subscription covers 5 dynamic codes. Cancel anytime and keep access to the end of the period you paid for.
If you stop paying, your dynamic codes stop resolving once the paid period and a further 7 days of grace have passed. Nothing is deleted: the codes, their links and their scan history stay in your account, and every code starts working the moment you subscribe again. Static codes never depend on us. They keep working as long as the page they point to does. We never switch one off, but we cannot bring back a page that has gone.
Questions
Can I pay once for a dynamic code instead of subscribing?
No. We send every scan of a dynamic code on for as long as it is printed, so the work is never finished and paid for. We would rather charge for that openly than sell a one-off price that has to run out somewhere. If you want to pay nothing, ever, print a static code.
Can I subscribe for one month and keep the code working?
Not after you cancel. The code works to the end of the month you paid for and 7 more days, then it stops resolving. It stays in your account with its scans, and works again as soon as you subscribe. One month suits a short campaign. It does not suit a sign that stays up for years.
Is the free trial really free?
Yes. Every new account gets 7 days of the full paid service and we ask for no payment details to start it. Nothing is charged when it ends — there is no card on file to charge. If you decide against subscribing, your dynamic codes simply stop resolving and everything you made stays in your account.
How do I cancel?
From the Subscription page in your account, in two clicks. Cancelling stops the next renewal and nothing else: you keep the full service until the end of the period you have paid for, and your codes, destinations and scan history all stay where they are.
